Black Country School Games update - 19 June 2017

Two of our sports teams were back in action last week as they competed in The Black Country Schools Games.

Our Year 4 tennis team, due to the fact that they are district champions were invited to represent Dudley at the tennis tournament at the Tipton Sports Academy. They were joined by twelve other teams representing the best of the teams from Dudley, Wolverhampton, Walsall and Sandwell.

Having topped the table at the group stages by remaining undefeated as a team, the team made it through to the semi-finals were they were marginally pipped to a place in the final. Overall the children came fourth.

This was a superb achievement given the school achieved eleventh place in the equivalent tournament in 2016. However, we can be proud of the high quality of tennis played by all of the children in the team. Well done.

Following on from the tennis team in action in Tipton, our gymnasts were in action at the Gymnastics competition at the Walsall campus of the University of Wolverhampton.

Our five gymnasts from Years 5 and 6 qualified for the tournament by virtue of their second place in the Dudley competition in March.

After a long wait, our gymnasts took to the mat and the vaulting box and performed a set routine that they have developed with the help of Miss C and our sports coach Laura Stuckey. Each member of the team performed their routines to a much higher standard than they have done before.

Overall, as one would expect from a higher level of competition, the standard of the gymnastics was of the highest order, but our team finished a superb eight place out of fifteen teams.

It is also encouraging that the team feature three children from our Year 5 class who will fancy themselves to qualify next year and progress higher up the standings.

We are very proud of these pupils and the way they have represented the school over the last few days. We should also like to thank the tremendous support of all our parents who were able to assist in transport on the day of the event. Thank you!
